The 2008 American Music Awards Review

The American Music Awards 2008 were dominated with female artists this year. The performances on Sunday night were some of the best of the year for any award show. Without all the controversy, award shows may actually become a much better reflection of artistic accomplishment.

Beyonce's version of "Single Ladies" is her best to date. She is unparalleled as a performer and was easily the best of the night. (9.5/10)

Mariah's version of "I Stay In Love" is perhaps her best live performance since 2003. She belted that song out! (9/10)

Rihanna left a lot to be imagined. We will put her in the category of great performers, who shouldn't act like they can sing. We still loved her attempt. (7/10)

Ne-Yo was surprisingly good. We aren't the biggest Ne-Yo fan, but he attempted to fill some of the void left by Usher, Chris Brown and the rest of the men. (8.5/10)

Pink is consistently outstanding. She can sing. That's all there is to it. (9.5/10)

Christina Aguilera embodies the true vocal capabilities of this generation. She is easily the best female singer (behind Beyonce) and has proved she has a lasting power! (9/10)

We must say that the highlight of the night was the duet between Alicia Keys and Queen Latifah. As if it couldn't get any better, legendary Opera singer Kathleen Battle came on stage and added a third element to the performance. Genius. Alicia is highly consistent and although she's not the best vocalist, she has the gift of musicianship.

Check out all of the clips below. What performance stood out to you?

Beyonce/Sasha Fierce: Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

Mariah Carey: I Stay In Love

Rihanna: Rehab

Ne-Yo: Closer

Alicia Keys/Queen Latifah/Kathleen Battle: Superwoman

Pink: Sober

Christina Aguilera: Greatest Hits Medley

No perfect 10 for Beyonce? I'm surprised! She did her thing though.

I loved the "Rehab" performance by Rihanna. I loved the song and the strange outfit.
