We had to post some of the videos filmed by The Golden Machine at the highly controversial "Karrine Steffans Speaks" event at Cal State Northridge.
Our videos have been appearing on blogs all over the internet.
Steffans was brought to CSUN by the Hip Hop Think Tank and she presented to an overflow crowd (and we truly mean OVERflow). Her book Confessions of a Video Vixen is a staple text in Dr. Karin Stanford's Politics of Hip Hop course, seeing that it sheds light on the roles of women in Hip Hop.
Our article entitled "I Have A Name and It's Not Superhead!: Hip Hop's Bastardizing Suppression of Female Expression", published last year in the HHTT journal, further explains her relevance to Hip Hop academia.
The event, held last Thursday, drew a crowd of anxious college students who were ready to judge her for her experiences in Hip Hop. What materialized was an understanding of her veracity and love of life lessons.
Towards the end of the event, Steffans had to go toe-to-toe with a college student seen in the videos below who felt disrespected by Steffans. Needless to say, even without our intervention, Steffans was able to shut her down in a classy fashion ((See videos 2 and 3)).
