Michael Jackson: Reflections from Johnie Scott, MFA

We recently received this from one of our writing mentors and favorite professors (Johnie Scott).

Very urgently stated.

Hello My Friends:

He finally made it.

No one could have anticipated what was going to happen,

or that it would be as sudden, as swift, as final as it was.

The Dark Cloud, that came between this Earth and the Sun

and the Stars, bringing a Darkness that we each of us felt,

if only for a moment, like a bitterly cold hand squeezing

the heart and then fading away,leaving behind a trace memory

as we gasped, blinked our eyes, wondered at what had happened

and then, for those who were aware, wiping away the tear

forming in the corner of the eye.

The thought: Years will have passed before the world understands

what we lost today.

Not to be maudlin, but he never will be alone. Michael was eccentric, yes, he was a lot of things, not the least being misunderstood and never truly appreciated. But mainly, Michael Jackson was genius personified, he was what "Soul" was all about, what is meant when people say that one is "gifted," and that is what his legacy should speak to when all is said and done.

Maybe now, maybe, he will rest in peace.

All I am asking for is a moment of silence,

of respect, and that we then listen to the music,

listen to his song, one last time.

"I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words.

Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80's.

To this day, the music we created together on "Off The Wall," "Thriller" and "Bad" is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all…talent, grace, professionalism and dedication.

He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever."
